Dragon Themed Birthday Party Finally arrived!

Happy Birthday Nigel Nezha!!

Cute baby dragon birthday

This was a very special moment, a lasting memory in their home.
Something to make a celebration a moment in time that will hold a special place
in your heart forever.

Really loved the way this dragon themed birthday came together. The Mommy and I decided to go with blue, green, yellow, and white as the main colors.  The backdrop is actually 3 panels of fabric sewed together with a strip sewed at the top for strength and to keep it straight when we put it on the wall.  The two cutouts on either side of the Happy Birthday Banner were penciled on poster board and I used acrylic paints like water colors.  (Just add water to the acrylic paints different amounts of water will have different hues of color )

So here, I actually made two of the tiered cupcake trays. One is just a basket with the handle cut off and a round board that I cut out and just placed on top. The other I used a lamp and attached the piece of round board to the top with a screw (placed a dowel inside that was very tight fitting) and just added 2 round blue place mats on the top .

The Eggs were made with balloons and paper mache, then I textured them in different styles along with different paint techniques.

I also found a font that I thought was rather stylish and cut it out of a piece of board using a Bandsaw, and Jig saw. Recently found a scroll saw that will make projects such as this much easier.

The cake was done by someone else, soon as I get their name I will add it . <3

Dragon Theme Backdrop

So Yesterday I started early in the morning about 6am .. my idea of using one piece of fabric was a no go. So I had this other fabric that was light in color and thought it would be cute .. so I cut two pannels of same width and length to go on either side (mind you, I had to tear appart my dinning room and using the dinning room table and a foldable table due to the lenth of the fabric .. 6 1/2 ft )
So I decided in the end I would had a piece at the top for support to make sure all the pannels would stay nice and straight once it was hung.

So This was complete and I hung it on the wall (redoing the dinning room walls later anyways, so I didnt care if paint got on the wall paper)

My Cat Mr Whiskers, decided he needed to get on the buffet counter to watch me more intently. Little did he want to realize he was in the middle of the way.. But he was so stinking cute, I took some photos of his furry lil butt.  He Moved when my friend came over to help me move the buffet cabinet.

Anyways this is where I ended up last night, between sewing the backdrop, going shopping with Nezah's Mom for items needed for the Birthday party, painting, dinner, helping husband with a side job, then painting some more, I was exhausted and just done.

This was all hand painted.

Used my cricut to make the stencil " Our One of a kind Dragon Nezha"

Dragon Eggs are finally done, well four of them are anyways.

These lil boogers took me 2 days just to achieve an interesting look and paint job. Wanted them to have an interesting texture and paint job.  I still would like to make at least 3 more to add to it ..

So In order to achieve texture on the eggs, I used Plaster of Paris (which if you get a big bag at Lowe's its cheaper then buying the small bags)

So I used strips of fabric and just muded them up, once dry I sanded some of them down..  to achieve different textures.

As for the painting, that was just playing around if your looking for the technique I used let me know.

Lots of fun playing with project's like this. I have other idea's I want to try for some Christmas decorations using Plaster of Paris. Hopefully Ill get around to that before Christmas.

YAY I Did It!! Finally used my bandsaw!

First time using a band saw BTW.

Not perfect but I think it's pretty flipping good, definitely could improve!! I figured instead of buying letters to put on the table for the Nezha's 1st Birthday party, why don't I attempt to make them myself. So mind you, I asked for a band saw two christmas's ago. Keep in mind I was a bit nervous and finally grew a pair and dove in. Haha. I took it nice and slow, only issues was the "A" I was like oh darn uhm how do i cut the space in the middle out... drill and jigsaw = a pain in the royal keester! Total witch with a "B" to get that A to look pretty decent..

Dragon Eggs

So I started making paper mache Dragon Egg's yesterday using balloons as my base. Today I added the texture using plaster of pairs (big bags are cheap at lowes) Hopefully they will be dry today to paint and finish them. Then Ill try going to making the backdrop tomorrow or Monday. Hopefully I'll have time to make some more Dragon Eggs.

More Birthday gifts for some Awesome Lady's In my life

So this week was full of Birthdays.  Here were some more birthday present's I made for two fabulous lady's .

For my friend Kate, whenever I think of her she always makes me think of how family comes first and her family is everything to her.  She is what I believe family is suppose to be about, when I look at her and her kids and how close they are. That's my idea of family and in my heart that's how I see our house hold as well.

It was also her daughter Charity's birthday this week as well. Mind you some how I managed to not know it was her birthday until the last minute. (talk about feeling pretty low as a friend) So soon as I seen her mother's post, I was like uhmmm HELP .. one mention of mermaids it was over, my head was flooded of idea's but time was against me. So a decal it was (reason it's so shinny looking - she flew in so I couldn't put the mermaid decal on her car for her) Sorry Charity don't think I don't love ya, just sometimes my head gets so scatter brained.

On a side note.. I think working on all the decorations for a baby's 1st birthday has me only thinking of decorations for that and wondering if I will be able to get everything I want to do done in time.. Crossing fingers.

Making a Birthday Gift

So one of my friends loves pirates and figured I'd make him a sign for his garage. Love how the pirate skull and bones turned out along with the weathered look. Figured pirates are grungy and such so that would be a good affect plus i wanted to be able to see the wood grain in the wood. Love having a cricut to be able to personalize gifts for friends and family.

Making large dragon cutouts for baby's first birthday, one done and 3 more to go. Then to cut them out and put them in a safe place.

And by no means am I any sort of painter, but was pretty proud of how it turned out using acrylic paints.

To the right is my hand painted version. To be cut out ..

To the left is the image I went by, should of probably added more yellows, but close enough I think.

Jamaican Beef Patties

So first time I've ever had a pastry patty was from an Indian Restaurant that my hubby loves!! So I've been addicted to these little pastry patties ever since and found a delicious recipe, most the time I just add whatever type of filling with spicy beef. However, you could do a veggie style as well (been thinking about how delicious that would be) and I serve these with an onion chutney.. mmm gets those taste buds right in the kickers!!

Will add recipe later :)
